A smartphone app to help users decide whether an injury or illness needs urgent attention or not

Background / Context / Abstract:

Conventionally, the medical algorithm that determines the degree of urgency of injured and sick people has been developed at home and abroad and is used by emergency staff and medical care personnel (Canadian Triage Acuity Scale, etc.). As a support system for emergency staff, “ORION” which the inventors have developed before is presently being used in Osaka Prefecture.
In the meantime, as a support system for the public, the “My SOS,” application designed for smartphones (specialized for Android terminals. Development source: Allm Inc.) has been developed, in which Life-saving, emergency, pediatric emergency and first-aid guide, AED map, etc. are displayed and the degree of urgency concerning emergency is determined by the traditional paper-based triage method. Any application or system that could guide the triage determination while entering the symptoms of an actual live patient has not yet been made known.

Technology Overview:

An application for smartphones, etc. for the public which guides a user to determine whether the case is a condition that must be reported in an urgent manner on the basis of abnormal symptoms (= fever, convulsion, rash, etc.). The assumed users are primarily the parents or guardians of small children.
The system of the present invention is as follows: First of all, after entering the age and the sex, the user selects diseases, injuries, etc. along the guide successively, and selects the symptoms from items posted. When the symptom and the condition require emergency transportation (triage color: red), the user is guided to a button that links to either an emergency call (119 in Japan) or triage service (#7119 in Japan) by phone. When the symptom is on the level of no problem by visiting a hospital in the city (triage color: green), a list of neighboring hospitals is displayed.

An “electronic triage” application (for the public) for smartphone and tablet terminals
・It is the purpose of the present invention to reduce the number of reports in cases in which emergency transportation is not actually needed (handling such cases by the adjacent hospital display function) and to prompt reporting in the opposite cases.
・The list of medical institutes to be displayed can be updated by importing a CSV file of a predetermined format.
・The application is equipped with a function to enable researchers to analyze the application log data accumulated in the server.
